As a North Carolina wedding photographer, one of my favorite parts of this job is getting to document weddings that are a true reflection of each couple's personality. Bethany and Chipper's lakeside wedding was exactly that—joyful, meaningful, and wonderfully unique from beginning to end.
Held beside a beautiful private lake and surrounded by their closest family and friends, their wedding day was filled with heartfelt moments and personal touches that made it completely their own.
The couple embraced a medieval-inspired wedding theme in a way that felt elegant and authentic. Bethany wore a stunning dark blue gown that looked absolutely beautiful against the natural backdrop, while Chipper wore a blue suit complete with a matching blue top hat. Their attire was such a fun way to express their personalities, and photographing all of those thoughtful details was one of my favorite parts of the day.
While Bethany was getting ready, I noticed another detail that made me smile. Modern songs were playing in medieval style on the television—a fun nod to their wedding theme that added so much character to the morning. It's little moments like these that help tell the complete story of a wedding day, and they're exactly the kinds of memories I love capturing through documentary-style wedding photography.
Bethany and Chipper's story is just as memorable as their wedding. The two met at Burning Man through a mutual friend, and years later, that same friend had the honor of officiating their ceremony. Watching someone who had been part of the very beginning of their relationship stand with them as they exchanged vows made the ceremony even more meaningful.
With the peaceful lake behind them and their loved ones gathered around, they promised forever in a setting that felt intimate, relaxed, and full of love. Every smile, every laugh, and every happy tear reminded me why I love photographing weddings that are centered on connection rather than perfection.
Of course, I also had to capture some of the beautiful details—from Chipper's signature blue top hat to their wedding cake and the little pieces that made the day uniquely theirs. These are the moments that couples love looking back on because they tell the full story of their wedding day.
